What is Zoho Mail?

Zoho Mail is business email hosting on your own domain, sold either on its own or bundled with the rest of Zoho's office suite (WorkDrive, Writer, Sheet, Show, Cliq, Meeting, Vault). You pick a plan per mailbox: a mail-only plan if you just want inboxes, or a Workplace plan if you also want shared drive storage and office apps for the same price tier.

It is built for small businesses and teams that want a real business inbox without paying Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 prices. The free plan (5 users, one domain, web-only) is a common starting point for solo founders and very small teams, with the option to upgrade once they need IMAP, POP, or ActiveSync access from a mail app.

Who it's for

  • Small businesses and solo founders who want a custom-domain inbox for close to nothing
  • Teams that want office apps (docs, sheets, chat, drive) bundled with mail instead of buying them separately
  • Cost-conscious teams migrating off Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 who don't need deep third-party integrations

Who should look elsewhere

  • Teams that live in Google Docs, Sheets, or Microsoft Office and don't want to switch their whole workflow
  • Anyone who needs fast, reliable support during setup, since response times are a recurring complaint
  • Privacy-first users who want IMAP access without paying, since the free plan dropped protocol access

Pros

  • + Cheapest named-tier pricing of any major business email provider, starting at $1/user/month
  • + Free plan supports a real custom domain for up to 5 users
  • + Workplace plans bundle a full office suite (docs, drive, chat, meetings) at the same per-user price as mail-only competitors
  • + All paid tier prices are published, not hidden behind a sales call, except the top Enterprise plan

Cons

  • Free plan no longer includes IMAP, POP, or ActiveSync, so it's web-only unless you pay
  • Mail Lite and Mail Premium only bill annually, no monthly option if you want to try before committing
  • Support response times and ticket handling are a recurring complaint, especially during setup
  • Free plan is only available in select data centers, so it's not guaranteed for every region

What you pay for

You pay per user per month, and the price depends on whether you want plain email (Mail Lite, Mail Premium) or the full Workplace bundle with WorkDrive, Cliq, and office apps. The free plan covers up to 5 users but only over the web, no IMAP or POP. Every paid tier's price is published on the pricing page rather than hidden behind a sales call, except the top Enterprise tier.

At about $1/month to start, it is one of the cheaper options in Email Providers.
