Cody is Sourcegraph's AI coding assistant, but as of mid-2025 it only exists as a feature of Sourcegraph Enterprise. There is no standalone Cody product anymore. You get chat, code completions, edits, and custom prompts inside VS Code, JetBrains, Visual Studio, a web app, and a CLI, and it draws context from Sourcegraph's code search index across your repos rather than just the open file.
Sourcegraph shut down Cody Free and Cody Pro on 2025-07-23 and pointed individual developers and small teams to Amp, a separate agentic coding tool it spun out as its own company. What is left under the Cody name is aimed at large engineering orgs that already run Sourcegraph for code search, not at a developer picking a personal AI pair programmer.
