What is Canto?

Canto is a digital asset management platform for storing, tagging, and sharing brand and marketing content. Teams upload images, video, and documents, then use search, AI tagging, and brand portals to get the right file to the right person without digging through folders or old email threads.

Canto has been around since 1990, which makes it one of the oldest DAM vendors still selling actively. Its current lineup, called Canto XI, adds AI search, an approval workflow tool, a brand template builder, and a product content module aimed at brands that need to keep product images and metadata in sync across their own site, Shopify, and Amazon.

You will not find prices on the site. Every plan, from the basic tier up to the product-content tier, is quote-only, and you talk to sales to get a number.

Who it's for

  • Marketing and brand teams that need a mature, established DAM with strong search and brand portal features
  • Retail and product brands that want product content synced across their site, Shopify, and Amazon
  • Companies that already budget for a sales-quoted enterprise tool and want to negotiate pricing directly

Who should look elsewhere

  • Small teams or solo marketers who want to see a price before talking to anyone
  • Startups on a tight, fixed monthly budget who need self-serve signup

Pros

  • + Long track record as a DAM vendor, with a platform that has kept adding features rather than stalling
  • + AI search and tagging are included rather than gated behind a separate add-on purchase
  • + Dedicated product content tools with direct Shopify and Amazon sync for retail brands
  • + Brand portals and approval workflows are built in, not third-party bolt-ons

Cons

  • No public pricing anywhere, so you cannot budget or compare cost without contacting sales
  • No free tier or free trial, so there's no way to test the product before signing a contract
  • Four separate tiers make it easy to buy the wrong one and discover a needed feature sits in a higher plan

Canto does not publish prices. All four tiers require a sales quote based on user count, storage, and features. Third-party estimates put real-world deals anywhere from the low thousands to well over $100,000 per year depending on company size and configuration, but none of that is confirmed by Canto itself.
