Teachable is a hosted platform for building and selling online courses, coaching programs, and digital downloads. You upload video lessons, set a price, and Teachable handles the course player, checkout, and student logins. It has been owned by Hotmart, the Brazilian creator-commerce company, since 2020.
In 2025 Teachable replaced its old plan lineup with a new Starter/Builder/Growth/Advanced structure, killed its free plan, and added hard caps on published products and student counts by tier. Existing customers were migrated onto the new pricing, and a lot of them saw their bill jump.

Who it's for
- ✓ Creators who want a straightforward course player and checkout without building a full marketing site
- ✓ Coaches selling a small number of cohort or self-paced courses who fit inside the product and student caps
- ✓ Sellers who want built-in AI tools for drafting curriculum and quiz questions
Who should look elsewhere
- ✗ Anyone who wants a free plan to test the waters before paying
- ✗ Creators with a large back catalog of courses or bundles who will hit the product caps on the cheaper plans
- ✗ Membership-style businesses that need detailed engagement analytics per member
Pros
- + Simple, fast course setup with a polished student-facing player and mobile apps
- + AI tools for generating outlines, quiz questions, and lesson drafts are built in, not a paid add-on
- + 0% transaction fees on Builder and above, so your revenue isn't taxed once you're past Starter
- + Global payment support and a 30-day money-back guarantee on paid plans
Cons
- – No free plan, and the cheapest paid tier still charges a 7.5% cut of every sale
- – 2025 pricing overhaul introduced hard product and student caps that didn't exist before, and forced migration hit long-time customers with 2-3x price increases
- – Support has moved heavily toward AI chatbot responses, which several reviewers say don't resolve billing or migration issues
- – Membership and community analytics are thinner than dedicated community platforms

You pay a flat monthly or annual plan fee tied to how many courses and students you have, and on the cheapest plan you also pay a 7.5% cut of every sale. There's no free plan anymore, just a 7-day trial.
At about $29/month to start, it sits mid-pack on price in Online Course Platforms.
