Canva is a browser-based design tool built around templates instead of a blank canvas. You pick a template for a deck, social post, doc, or video, then drag in your own text, images, and brand colors. For presentations specifically, it works like a lightweight slide editor: pick a deck template, edit slide by slide, and present straight from the browser or export to PowerPoint/PDF.
Canva's pitch is one tool for everything a small team designs, not just decks. That breadth is the main reason non-designers pick it over a dedicated presentation tool, and the main reason design-heavy teams eventually outgrow it.

Who it's for
- ✓ Founders and small teams who need decks, one-pagers, and social posts from the same templates and brand kit
- ✓ Non-designers who want a deck to look decent fast without learning a new tool
- ✓ Teams that already use Canva for marketing and want their pitch decks to match
Who should look elsewhere
- ✗ Teams that need slide-level animation, advanced data visualization, or precise layout control that dedicated deck tools (Pitch, Beautiful.ai) handle better
- ✗ Larger teams that got burned by Canva's 2024 Teams pricing change and want a flat, predictable per-team price instead of per-seat billing
Pros
- + One brand kit and template library covers decks, social, and print, so a deck matches everything else you make
- + Free plan is genuinely usable, not just a trial wall, with over a million templates and assets
- + Fast for non-designers: pick a template, swap text and images, done
Cons
- – Business plan jumped from the old Teams price and now bills per seat, so cost scales fast as headcount grows
- – AI features are metered by credits per plan, so heavy AI use on Free or Pro runs out quickly
- – Not built specifically for presenting: no live audience interaction, analytics, or presenter tools that dedicated deck apps include
Canva pricing
At about $12/month to start, it sits mid-pack on price in Presentation Software.

Prices confirmed on canva.com/pricing are annual, per person: Pro US$144/year, Business US$250/year. Monthly billing costs more per month than the annual rate implies; Canva does not show the flat monthly price on the main pricing page without picking a plan first. Business is pay-as-you-grow, so you only pay for seats that accept an invite. Enterprise is quote-only.

Canva FAQ
Is Canva actually free to use?+
Yes. The Free plan gives you a working editor, over a million templates, and 5GB of storage with no time limit. Pro and Business add more templates, storage, and AI credits.
How much does Canva cost for a team?+
Business is US$250 per person per year (about US$20.83/month), billed per seat with no minimum. You only pay for seats that accept the invite.
Did Canva raise its prices?+
Yes. In 2024 Canva moved Teams customers from a flat plan (about $119.99/year covering up to 5 people) to per-seat pricing, which meant a 5-person team's bill could jump to around $500/year. After backlash, Canva let existing Teams customers keep adding members for free and relaunched the plan as Business at $250/year per seat for new customers.
Does Canva work as a real presentation tool, not just a design tool?+
You can build and present slide decks in Canva and export to PowerPoint or PDF, but it lacks presenter-specific features like live audience interaction or deck analytics that dedicated presentation tools offer.
