What is Crisp?

Crisp is a website chat widget bundled with a shared inbox, email, and an AI chatbot called Hugo. It started as a simple live chat tool and has grown into a small helpdesk: one inbox handles chat, email, and (on higher tiers) other channels, plus a knowledge base and workflow automation.

Pricing is per workspace rather than per agent, which is unusual for this category. That makes it cheap for a small team crammed onto one plan, but each tier still caps how many seats you get before you have to move up or pay $10 per extra agent.

The AI chatbot is credit-metered. Every plan above Free comes with a monthly dollar allowance of AI usage, and Crisp publishes rough conversation counts for each tier so you can gauge whether your volume fits.

Who it's for

  • Small support or growth teams that want chat, email, and a basic AI bot in one inbox without per-seat pricing
  • Startups that qualify for Crisp's 30% lifetime discount program

Who should look elsewhere

  • Teams running multiple brands or products, since each workspace is billed separately
  • Support teams with heavy AI chatbot volume, since AI credits run out fast on Mini and Essentials

Pros

  • + Flat workspace pricing instead of per-seat pricing, which is cheaper for small teams with several agents
  • + Free plan is genuinely usable for 2 agents, not a time-limited trial
  • + Omnichannel inbox and ticketing are available well below what comparable tools charge at the same tier

Cons

  • Extra agent seats can only be added on the Plus plan, so a growing team on Mini or Essentials has to upgrade the whole plan rather than just add a seat
  • AI credits are limited on Mini and Essentials, so an active Hugo chatbot can hit its monthly cap before the month is out
  • Running more than one workspace multiplies the bill, since Crisp charges per workspace, not per organization

Priced per workspace, not per seat, though each tier caps included seats (2/4/10/20+) and extra agents cost $10/seat/month, which is only available to add on Plus. Prices shown are monthly; Crisp offers an annual billing option in-app but does not publish the annual rate or discount on the pricing page. A 30% lifetime discount is available for qualifying startups (under $1M raised, under 3 years old) on Essentials and Plus.

Crisp FAQ

Is Crisp free?+

Yes. The Free plan covers 2 seats, the website chat widget, and a shared inbox with no time limit, though it comes with no AI credits and a 100-contact profile cap.

How does Crisp charge for extra agents?+

Each plan includes a fixed number of seats (2 on Free, 4 on Mini, 10 on Essentials, 20+ on Plus). Extra seats cost $10 per agent per month, and that add-on is only available on the Plus plan.

What happens when Crisp's AI credits run out?+

Each paid plan includes a monthly dollar allowance for the Hugo AI chatbot ($5 on Mini, $25 on Essentials, $75 on Plus), roughly translating to 90, 450, and 1,350 automated conversations. Heavy AI use can exceed that allowance before the billing period ends.
