Amplitude is a digital analytics platform for tracking what users do in your product and turning that into charts, cohorts, and experiments you can act on. You send it events from your app or website, and it builds funnels, retention curves, and user paths from that event stream, plus session replay, feature flags, and A/B testing on top.
The pricing model has shifted away from per-seat pricing toward usage: every plan, including paid ones, allows unlimited seats, and what you pay scales with monthly tracked users or event volume instead. That makes the free and entry tiers cheap for small products but means cost can climb fast once you're tracking real volume, especially once you need experimentation or governance features that live only in the custom-quote Growth and Enterprise tiers.

Who it's for
- ✓ Product and growth teams that need funnels, retention, and cohort analysis on real user event data, not just page-view counts
- ✓ Teams that want feature flagging, A/B testing, and analytics in one platform instead of stitching tools together
- ✓ Startups that can live inside the 2M-events-a-month free tier while they find product-market fit
Who should look elsewhere
- ✗ Cost-sensitive, high-volume products where event counts scale faster than revenue
- ✗ Teams that want a fixed, predictable monthly bill instead of usage-based pricing that moves with growth
- ✗ Small teams that just need basic web analytics and don't need cohort or funnel-level depth
Pros
- + Free plan is free forever at 2M events/month, not a time-limited trial
- + Unlimited seats on every plan, including paid ones, so cost isn't tied to headcount
- + Combines analytics, session replay, feature flags, and experimentation in one product
- + Frequent shipping cadence, with new releases most weeks documented on its public changelog
Cons
- – No published prices for Growth or Enterprise, the tiers most teams past the startup stage end up needing
- – Plus plan's price scales automatically with event volume, so bills grow without a new sales conversation
- – Experimentation and CDP features are often sold as separate line items on top of Growth/Enterprise, which can surprise teams at renewal
- – Amplitude's own CEO has publicly acknowledged pricing is the most cited objection to adopting the product
Amplitude pricing
Starts around $49/month.
| Plan | Price | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free | 2M events/month included, forever · Unlimited seats · Basic analytics, session replay, feature flags · AI agents and AI feedback (limited) |
| Plus | $49/mo | Starts at $49/month, scales with event volume up to 70M events/month · 20% off with annual billing · Custom events, 20 behavioral cohorts, alerts, heatmaps · 2-year data retention |
| Growth | Custom | Unlimited MTUs or events · Advanced behavioral exploration, currency conversion · SSO and project permissions · 20K monthly session replays |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited projects · Data access controls, RBAC · Unlimited monitoring and alerts · Dedicated support and CSM |
Free plan caps at 2M events/month with no time limit. Plus is the only plan with a listed price: $49/month, or 20% less billed annually, and that price rises automatically as event volume grows past the included 2M up to a 70M-event ceiling. Growth and Enterprise are quote-only and priced on monthly tracked users (MTU) or event volume; third-party deal data (Vendr) puts Growth contracts (100K-250K MTUs) around $40K-$80K/year and Enterprise contracts (500K-1M+ MTUs) around $100K-$250K+/year, with overage rates typically 20-50% above the contracted per-MTU rate, but Amplitude does not publish these numbers itself. Amplitude does not offer a time-limited free trial; it points new users to the free plan instead.
