Auth0 is a hosted authentication and user management platform, now sold as part of Okta's product lineup. You wire it into your app to handle login, signup, session management, MFA, and social or enterprise SSO instead of building and maintaining that code yourself.
It covers both consumer apps (B2C) and apps that serve business customers (B2B) as separate pricing tracks, since B2B setups typically need organizations, SAML/SSO for each customer's identity provider, and SCIM provisioning. Auth0 also handles machine-to-machine authentication for service-to-service calls and offers Actions, a way to run custom logic during login without standing up your own backend.

Who it's for
- ✓ Teams that need enterprise SSO and SCIM provisioning for business customers, not just consumer login
- ✓ Larger or funded teams that can absorb per-MAU costs in exchange for Okta-backed reliability and support
Who should look elsewhere
- ✗ Early-stage or bootstrapped apps expecting to scale past the free 25,000 MAU tier without a big jump in cost
- ✗ Teams that got used to Auth0's older, cheaper legacy plans and don't want to be pushed onto Enterprise pricing
Pros
- + Free plan covers up to 25,000 monthly active users with real features (SSO, SCIM), not just a stripped-down trial
- + Separate B2C and B2B tracks match pricing to how the app is actually used
- + Backed by Okta's infrastructure, with published uptime and attack-blocking numbers
- + Actions let you run custom login logic without a separate backend
Cons
- – Per-MAU pricing gets expensive fast once you cross a few thousand users, especially on the B2B track
- – Several needed pieces (extra SSO connections, MFA, AI Agents) are separate paid add-ons, not included in the base tiers
- – Past the top published MAU tier, pricing becomes quote-only Enterprise, which some customers have found is a forced, costly upgrade

Auth0 bills by monthly active users (MAUs) and splits pricing into separate B2C and B2B tracks, each with Essentials and Professional tiers, on top of the Free plan (up to 25,000 MAUs). Confirmed live on the pricing calculator: at 1,000 MAUs B2C Essentials is $70/month; at 10,000 MAUs, B2C Essentials is $700/month, B2C Professional is $1,600/month, B2B Essentials is $2,100/month, and B2B Professional is $2,400/month. Above the top published MAU tier, both tracks move to Enterprise, which is quote-only. Yearly billing is priced at 11x the monthly rate (one month free). Add-ons cost extra on top of the base plan: additional enterprise SSO connections run $100/month on B2B Essentials and Professional; Enterprise MFA is a paid add-on ($100/month, $1,100/year) only on B2B Essentials and is included at no extra cost on B2B Professional; extra machine-to-machine tokens can be bought on Professional plans and on B2B Essentials, but not on the Free or B2C Essentials plans, on top of the included 1,000 (Essentials) or 5,000 (Professional) tokens. Prices above are the lowest published entry point per tier; exact price depends on your MAU count.

Auth0 FAQ
Is Auth0 free?+
Yes, the Free plan covers up to 25,000 monthly active users with no credit card required, including one enterprise connection and self-service SSO.
How does Auth0 pricing work above the free tier?+
You pick a B2C or B2B track, then an Essentials or Professional tier, and price scales with your monthly active user count. At 10,000 MAUs, B2C Essentials runs $700/month and B2B Essentials runs $2,100/month.
What happens if I have more users than the published tiers cover?+
You move to Enterprise, which is quote-only. One long-time customer wrote on Hacker News in 2021 that Okta's acquisition of Auth0 pushed them off a legacy Developer plan (about $1,138/month for 50,000 MAUs) onto an Enterprise quote around $8,000/month, with no option to keep the old pricing.
Are SSO and MFA included in the price?+
One enterprise connection is included even on the Free plan, but on the B2B track, additional SSO connections cost $100/month on both Essentials and Professional, and Enterprise MFA is a $100/month ($1,100/year) add-on on Essentials only; it's included at no extra cost on Professional.
