Google Analytics is Google's free web and app analytics tool, now on its GA4 data model. You install a tag or SDK, and it tracks page views, events, conversions, and user paths, then reports on them alongside Google Ads and Search Console data if you link those accounts.
The free version covers the vast majority of sites. Analytics 360 is the paid enterprise tier: it removes GA4's data thresholds, adds an SLA, and gives you BigQuery export and deeper attribution, but Google only sells it through a sales conversation or an authorized reseller, not a self-serve checkout.
Because Analytics sends data to Google's US servers, several EU data protection authorities (Austria, France, Italy, Denmark, Norway) have ruled standard configurations noncompliant with GDPR since the 2020 Schrems II decision, which is why privacy-conscious teams outside the US often look elsewhere or run it alongside a first-party tool.

Who it's for
- ✓ Teams that already run Google Ads and want traffic and ad data in one place for free
- ✓ Sites with tight budgets that don't need EU data residency or a compliance guarantee
- ✓ Marketers who need attribution across search, ads, and organic in one report
Who should look elsewhere
- ✗ EU-based sites that need to avoid US data transfer questions under GDPR
- ✗ Teams that want a simple, cookieless dashboard without a consent banner
- ✗ Anyone who needs a published, self-serve price for the enterprise tier
Pros
- + The core product is free with no seat limit or trial to expire
- + Deep integration with Google Ads, Search Console, and BigQuery
- + Handles high event volumes and complex multi-property setups better than most free tools
Cons
- – Analytics 360 pricing is quote-only, so budgeting for the enterprise tier means a sales call, not a pricing page
- – GDPR rulings in Austria, France, and Italy have found standard setups noncompliant, pushing privacy-conscious teams to alternatives
- – The GA4 interface and event model have a real learning curve compared with simpler analytics tools
Google Analytics pricing
No public entry price to compare, so budget depends on a sales quote.
| Plan | Price | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 (standard) | Free | Unlimited properties · Reporting, exploration, and attribution tools · Data thresholds and sampling apply at high volume |
| Analytics 360 | Custom | Higher data limits and unsampled reporting · Service-level agreement and dedicated support · BigQuery export and advanced attribution |
Standard Google Analytics (GA4) is free with no seat or event cap advertised, though very high-traffic sites hit data thresholds and sampling. The paid tier, Analytics 360, is quote-only through Google sales or a reseller. Public estimates from resellers and consultants put 360 contracts starting around $50,000/year and scaling with event volume, but Google does not publish that number itself, so we are not stating it as vendor-confirmed pricing.

Google Analytics FAQ
Is Google Analytics actually free?+
Yes, standard Google Analytics (GA4) is free with no published usage cap for most sites. Very high-traffic properties can hit data thresholds and sampling, which is one reason large sites move to the paid Analytics 360 tier.
How much does Analytics 360 cost?+
Google doesn't publish a price. You get a quote from Google sales or a reseller based on event volume. We didn't find an official number, so treat any specific figure you see elsewhere as a third-party estimate, not a confirmed Google price.
Is Google Analytics GDPR compliant?+
Not by default. Data protection authorities in Austria, France, and Italy have ruled that standard Google Analytics setups violate GDPR because data transfers to US servers, following the 2020 Schrems II decision.
