What is Moz?

Moz is an SEO platform built around Keyword Explorer, Site Crawl, Link Explorer, and Rank Tracker, plus its long-standing Domain Authority and Page Authority scores that most of the industry uses as a shorthand for site strength. It's one of the older names in SEO tooling and still runs Moz Academy and Whiteboard Friday as free educational content alongside the paid product.

Through 2026 Moz has been pushing hard into AI search visibility. The newer AI Visibility dashboards track how often a brand shows up in AI Overviews and chatbot answers across GPT, Gemini, and Google AI Mode, and the July 2026 release added a Citations view showing exactly which pages LLMs pull from when they mention a brand.

Who it's for

  • Marketers and SEOs who want keyword research, site audits, rank tracking, and backlink checks in one dashboard instead of stitching tools together
  • Teams that already rely on Domain Authority or Page Authority as a shared metric with clients or stakeholders
  • Agencies that want to start tracking brand visibility in AI Overviews and chatbot answers without a separate tool

Who should look elsewhere

  • Teams that need the deepest possible backlink index for aggressive link-building, since reviewers consistently say Moz's link and keyword database is smaller than Ahrefs or Semrush
  • Solo bloggers or hobby sites, since even the cheapest plan is $49/mo with no free-forever tier
  • Fast-growing sites that will outgrow the page-crawl and keyword-tracking caps on Standard or Medium quickly

Pros

  • + One subscription covers keyword research, technical site audits, rank tracking, and backlink analysis, so you're not paying for four separate tools
  • + Domain Authority and Page Authority are widely recognized shorthand metrics that clients and stakeholders already understand
  • + MozBar Premium (the Chrome extension) and 24-hour human support are included on every paid plan
  • + AI Visibility and Citations tracking are shipping on a fast cadence, with a new related release almost every month through 2026

Cons

  • Keyword and backlink database is smaller than Ahrefs or Semrush, which makes long-tail keyword research and link-building in niche industries harder
  • Hard caps on tracked keywords, crawled pages, and AI-visibility dashboards mean a growing site can hit the ceiling on Standard or Medium and get pushed into an upgrade sooner than expected
  • Extra AI Visibility dashboards ($20 each) and extra tracked prompts ($50 per 100) are add-on costs on top of every plan, not included even at the top tier
  • Rank tracking and link index updates can lag real-time changes, so day-to-day monitoring isn't as fresh as some competitors

What you pay for

You pay a flat monthly (or discounted yearly) seat price per plan, and the tier you pick sets hard caps on tracked sites, tracked keywords, pages crawled, and now also AI-visibility dashboards and tracked AI prompts. All prices are public on the pricing page, so there's no quote-only guessing for the Standard through Large plans. Enterprise is sold through sales with no listed price.

At about $49/month to start, it sits mid-pack on price in SEO Tools.

Prices above are monthly billing. Paying yearly cuts every plan by 20%: Standard drops to $79/mo, Medium to $143/mo, Large to $239/mo. The $49/mo Starter plan is Moz's entry tier for a single site and isn't shown in the main 3-column comparison, and Moz's own release notes say Starter doesn't get AI Visibility (that starts on Standard). Extra AI Visibility dashboards cost $20 each and extra tracked prompts cost $50 per 100, on any plan. There's no free-forever plan. The only free trial Moz documents is 7 days on the Medium plan billed monthly; Standard, Large, and yearly billing aren't offered as a trial.

Moz FAQ

Is Moz free?+

No. Moz Pro has no free-forever plan. There's a 7-day free trial, but it's only offered on the Medium plan billed monthly, and the cheapest paid plan overall is $49/mo for a single site.

How much does Moz Pro cost?+

Standard is $99/mo ($79/mo billed yearly), Medium is $179/mo ($143/mo yearly), and Large is $299/mo ($239/mo yearly). A cheaper $49/mo Starter plan exists for a single site. Enterprise pricing is custom.

What do the plan limits actually control?+

Each tier caps the number of tracked sites, tracked keywords per month, pages crawled per week, AI Visibility dashboards, and tracked AI prompts. Standard covers 3 sites and 300 keywords; Large covers 25 sites and 3,000 keywords.

What's new in Moz Pro's AI features?+

Moz added a Citations section inside AI Visibility in July 2026, showing which pages and domains LLMs cite when answering questions about a brand, on top of the existing AI Visibility dashboards for tracking brand mentions across GPT, Gemini, and Google AI Mode.
