Axiom is a cloud observability platform for logs, traces, and metrics, priced by ingest volume and query compute instead of by host or seat. You send data in through OpenTelemetry, its own APL query language, or standard log shippers, and it stores everything compressed for cheap long-tail retention.
The pitch is that most observability tools force you to sample or drop data to control cost, while Axiom's compression and metered pricing are built to make it affordable to keep everything. The free Personal plan gives a single user a real allowance to run and query logs at small scale before paying anything.
Axiom added Metrics as a generally available product in 2026, alongside dashboard and evaluation tooling aimed at teams building and monitoring AI features, on top of its original log-search core.

Who it's for
- ✓ Teams that want to keep full-fidelity logs and traces at high volume without paying per-host or per-GB-ingested list price
- ✓ Engineers who want a real free tier to run a side project or small service's logging without a credit card
- ✓ Teams already comfortable writing queries (APL) rather than clicking through a fixed dashboard builder
Who should look elsewhere
- ✗ Teams that want fully open-source, run-it-yourself software, since even Axiom's Bring Your Own Cloud plan is still an Axiom-operated service rather than installable software
- ✗ Teams that want one flat predictable monthly bill regardless of how much they query during an incident
- ✗ Teams that need mature APM, session replay, or RUM in the same product
Pros
- + Generous always-free allowance (500 GB ingest, 25 GB storage) that's usable for real small projects, not just a trial
- + No minimum commitment on the paid plan, just a $25/month base fee plus metered usage
- + Storage costs are low because of Axiom's compression, so keeping long retention windows doesn't get expensive the way it does on per-GB-stored tools
- + Automatic volume discounts on prepaid credits instead of negotiated enterprise pricing
Cons
- – Query compute is metered, so a bad incident where you're running lots of ad hoc queries and refreshing dashboards can spike your bill right when you're already under pressure
- – The Bring Your Own Cloud plan for data residency has no published price, so teams have to talk to sales to even get a ballpark
- – OpenTelemetry metrics and dashboards are newer additions and thinner than what dedicated APM tools offer
- – Security add-ons (SSO, RBAC, directory sync, audit log) are each separate monthly line items on top of the base plan
Axiom pricing
At about $25/month to start, it sits mid-pack on price in Observability & Error Monitoring.
| Plan | Price | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | Free | 500 GB/month data loading, always free · 10 GB-hours/month query compute, always free · 25 GB storage, always free, 30-day max retention · 3 datasets, 1 user, 3 monitors |
| Axiom Cloud | $25/mo | $25/month platform fee, no minimum commitment, billed monthly · 1,000 GB/month data loading included, then 0.06-0.12 credits/GB · 100 GB-hours/month query compute included, then 0.08-0.2 credits/GB-hour · 100 GB storage included, then $0.030/GB/month for compressed data · Up to 100 datasets, 100 users at no per-seat charge, 500 monitors (soft limits) · Volume discounts up to 30% at 1,000,000+ prepaid credits |
| Bring Your Own Cloud | Custom | Separate plan from Axiom Cloud; platform fee is billed annually instead of monthly · Customizable data retention, including a 'Forever' option · Price isn't published; requires talking to sales |
| Enterprise add-ons | Custom | RBAC $50/month · SSO $100/month · Directory sync $100/month · Audit log $50/month |
Pricing is usage-based, not a flat per-seat fee. The paid Axiom Cloud plan is a $25/month platform fee plus metered credits for data ingest, query compute, and storage past the included allowances. 1 credit is $1 by default, less with prepaid volume commitments. Security and admin features (SSO, RBAC, directory sync, audit log) are billed separately as fixed monthly add-ons. A separate Bring Your Own Cloud plan exists for teams that want an annual platform fee and custom/forever retention, but its price isn't published. Figures pulled from the live pricing page.

Axiom FAQ
Is Axiom free to use?+
Yes. The Personal plan is free forever for one user, with 500 GB/month of data loading, 25 GB of storage, and 30-day retention. Paid usage starts at $25/month plus metered credits once you go past those limits.
How does Axiom's pricing actually work?+
You pay a $25/month base fee on the Cloud plan, then metered credits for data ingest and query compute beyond the included allowance, plus storage at $0.030/GB/month. There's no per-seat or per-host charge, so cost tracks how much you ingest and query, not headcount.
Can Axiom bills spike unexpectedly?+
Query compute is metered, so running lots of ad hoc diagnostic queries or auto-refreshing dashboards, which is common during an incident, can push costs up quickly. Axiom's own pricing page notes a $1,000-per-cycle billing threshold that triggers an invoice to help catch this before it compounds.
Can I self-host Axiom?+
Not as open-source, run-it-yourself software. Axiom does offer a separate Bring Your Own Cloud plan alongside its standard Axiom Cloud service, billed with an annual platform fee instead of monthly and supporting custom or 'forever' retention, but its price isn't published and Axiom still operates the service.
